Beneath the Veil             A. J. Heskett

I hear you listening,
I see you watching,
I feel you touching
       groping
seeking the form
beneath the veil.

Your wounded love, violated
seeks shelter in my heart.
It beats a rhythm,
       (your expectations).
It seeks a grafting in flesh
this thing between us.

You speak of love, and dance
between illusion and ritual.
Half knowing half wondering
       I wait
like a sober child–feeling the moment.
I sense your touch would heal.

You see me listening,
you see me watching,
you touch me, sensing
      my retreat,
pulling tight my cloak, choking
down the hope, beneath the veil.
